Dr. Gene Holland

Doctor Holland was reared in Glenwood, NC, a small community in McDowell County just a few miles east of Asheville.  He received the AA degree from Brevard College (1962), BS from UNC (1965), DDS from UNC (1968) and the MS from U. of Michigan (1972).  Immediately upon completion of the DDS degree he joined the faculty in the UNC School of Dentistry where he served until his retirement in 1997 at the rank of Professor.  During his tenure in the School of Dentistry Dr. Holland served in several administrative positions, including Co-director of the Prosthodontics Residency Program and Interim Chair (2 ½ years) of the Department of Fixed Prosthodontics.

Following his retirement from the School of Dentistry Dr. Holland opened and maintained a private practice of Prosthodontics in Fayetteville, NC.  In 2011 he closed the practice and moved to Flat Rock to enjoy “retirement” in our beautiful NC mountains.  He “came out of retirement” in early 2012 and joined Dr. Teague’s practice on a limited basis.  He and Jane live in the Kenmure Country Club community of Flat Rock where he continues to pursue “retirement”.

Doctor Holland has held membership in several professional dental organizations and maintains active membership in the American Dental Association and the NC Dental Society.  From 2007 to 2011 he served the NC Dental Society as a member of its Board of Trustees and as its Chair in 2011.  He also chaired the Dental Society’s Council on Constitution and Bylaws/Ethics and Jurisprudence for several years.

Second to his family Dr. Holland’s special interests are primarily sports related, particularly baseball and fishing, but currently includes attempting to re-learn the challenging game of bridge.
